Education

I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2014 with a degree in Spanish Education. I graduated with honors. During my time at SEMO, I spent a month in Ecuador to improve my Spanish speaking abilities. After graduation, I worked for a year teaching Spanish to grades K-8. I enjoyed my time working with the different grade levels and learned a lot.

Experience

I have tutored several people in the past, with good outcomes. One student struggled greatly with math and I helped her to not only improve her abilities at math, but to learn to see it in everyday life. When I tutor students, I use a variety of methods as I feel it is important to suit the lesson to the student's needs. Methods I have tried and found to be successful with my most recent student are color coding notes, using flash cards, and bringing visual aids to sessions to go through problems. I want to be a tutor because, honestly, I never struggled in school. That left me free to help people who did. Thus, I became a teacher. I've decided I love teaching the elementary students so much that I'm going back to school for Elementary Ed. Teaching and helping is something that comes naturally to me.

Hobbies

I must confess, I'm a geek. I'm the person who walked to class with a book in front of my face, because I knew the way and I wanted to get done with the chapter before I got there. I love Doctor Who and Sherlock. I'm as happy to sit and discuss books as I am doing anything. I play games, both board games and video games. I decided last year that no matter what I'm going to have to play video games until I quit teaching, just so I can hold a halfway intelligent conversation with my students when they ask. Trust me, it impresses them. I make chainmail. No, not the spam emails. The metal kind. I know how to make a bracelet out of it so far. I plan to learn to make more. Because that's the other thing I do, as any good teacher will do. I learn. If you think I'd be a good fit, message me. I don't bite.
